What is personal information and why do we collect it?
A Modern Remedy collects personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principals (see the Australian Privacy Act, 1988). Personal information is defined as information that identifies an individual. For example: names, postal addresses, email addresses and phone numbers.
Personal information may be obtained in the following ways:
- When purchasing items from our store.
- Interacting with us on social media.
- Participation in competitions we conduct.
- Requests for information.
- Conducting business with us as a supplier or wholesaler.
- Subscribing to our online newsletter or mailing list.
- Through the use of integrated third-party services.
We collect your personal information for the primary purpose of providing our services to you, managing our business and website, providing marketing to you and general service delivery. We will only collect personal information that is relevant to the operations of our business and that will be used in helping to improve your customer experience. We are committed to full transparency of the information we collect, its use and retention, where possible and appropriate. You may opt to unsubscribe from our mailing/marketing lists at any time by contacting us in writing.
You may receive marketing emails from us and can unsubscribe at any time by clicking on the link at the bottom of the email.
If you use our online store, you may also receive emails from us regarding your orders or account activity.
For example, we may send you an email confirming that:
- You have created a customer account.
- Your customer account password has been reset or changed.
- You have made a purchase.
- Your order has been shipped.
These are system generated emails that are sent automatically.
Where reasonable and practicable to do so, we will collect your personal information only from you. However, in some circumstances your information may be transmitted to third parties. This can include payment gateway providers and payment transaction processes, which have their own privacy policies. We recommend that you read their privacy policies to understand how your personal information is handled by these providers. Be aware that some providers may operate in a different jurisdiction than you and may be susceptible to different laws, regulations and best practices.
Third-party providers may collect the following data in relation to payment processing:
- Your full name.
- Your contact information (phone number, email address and website).
- Billing and shipping addresses (including ZIP/Post code).
- Credit card number, security code and expiration date.
For security purposes, A Modern Remedy does not have access to or store sensitive cardholder data, such as full credit card numbers or card authentication data. Payments are processed through a third-party processor, therefore, the collection, use, and sharing of your data will also be subject to the privacy policies related agreements of that third party.
When you click on links on our store, they may direct you away from our site. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites and encourage you to read their privacy statements.
Disclosure of Personal Information
Your personal information may be disclosed in a number of circumstances including the following:
- Third parties where you consent to the use or disclosure.
- Where required or authorised by law.
- Violations of our Terms of Sales & Service
Security of Personal Information
Your personal information is stored in a manner that reasonably protects it from misuse, loss and from unauthorized access, modification or disclosure. Unfortunately, no system can be 100% secured, so we cannot guarantee that communications between you, us or any third party will be entirely protected from being accessed by any unauthorised individuals, though we are committed to taking every reasonable step to safeguard your personal information. We will notify you and any applicable regulator of a suspected data security breach where we are legally required to do so.
When your personal information is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was obtained, we will take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify your personal information. However, most of the personal information is or will be stored in client files which will be kept by us for a minimum of 7 years.
Access to your Personal Information

A Modern Remedy will not charge any fee for your access request, but may charge an administrative fee for providing a copy of your personal information.
In order to protect your personal information, we may require identification from you before releasing the requested information.
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
The European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) contains data protection requirements which impact how businesses process and handle data, effective from 25 May 2018.
The GDPR protects personal data and information for people throughout the European Union (EU) and businesses that export that data from the EU.

It is a requirement of the GDPR that every business allows any EU citizen (for whom the business is storing personal data or information) to:
- Request a copy of the data.
- Request the deletion/anonymisation of this data.

Maintaining the quality of your Personal Data
It is an important to us that your personal information is up to date. We will take reasonable steps to make sure that your personal information is accurate, complete and up to date. If you find that the information we have is not up to date or is inaccurate, please advise us as soon as practicable so we can update our records and ensure we can continue to provide quality services to you.
